Greetings Sports Fans!

To all the parents and especially the moms out there, thank you for all you do. With today being mother’s day, it is time to recognize the impact that the past year and a half has been on families. Balancing work, family, online education, and your own sanity has been challenging to say the least. Happy Mother’s Day!

Season 4 starts on Monday with basketball and wrestling kicking things off. As of right now, swimming is on hold. Thank you all who have signed up for swimming and we will keep you posted if anything changes and once we get more guidance from the District. Moreover, with the new guidance from the OHA and Governor’s office, it looks like we will be able to accommodate spectators for season 4.

Season 4 Information
Men’s Basketball will begin their first three days of trainings after school on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday from 4-6pm. Women’s Basketball will begin their first two days of trainings on Monday and Tuesday from 630-830pm. The Wrestling Program will begin their workouts this week in the Wrestling Room from 4-6pm. Student-Athletes of the Week
Men’s Golf- Lucas Devlin- Made varsity as a freshman. Great temperament, mature beyond his years. Great Ball striker. Always is upbeat positive attitude. A great addition to the team

Women’s Lacrosse
Olivia Kozitza- Olivia had a great game against Central Catholic this last week and has really stepped up as an underclassmen to lead the team to multiple wins this season!

Track and Field

Giuliano Scasso has run some of the top times in the state this year and is ranked top ten in 4 events. His confidence is calming and inspiring. Giuliano epitomizes team. He is always running around the track cheering on teammates and encouraging others to chase their dreams.

Paige Buckwalter is a true teammate! She is always willing to help guide fellow athletes. Whether that be helping with drills, working on technique, or lifting others up, Paige is one you can count on. Paige cares so deeply about our program that she is always first in line to volunteer at youth meets because she knows how impactful her presence is and how meaningful track and field can be for all. We wouldn’t be the team we are without Paige!

The track and field season has been an awesome success so far. We have set two new school records and set to challenge the best teams in the state. True leaders have stepped to support each other across our roster. This is a team that really loves and supports each other. Such needed expressions in our current times.

Softball- Lexi Kranke is our player of the week. She has stepped up in a big way becoming our second string pitcher. She has pitched 7 innings this past week and has 5 strike outs. She also hit a three run homerun in the Grant game. We are 4-8 overall, 4-6 in league play. We have been getting better with every game and everyone is showing improvement. The team is showing up to play their game and have fun. That is what this season is all about.

Women’s Golf- Jalissa Kabalican is our athlete of the week. Jalissa has done a tremendous job in our number one spot, consistently producing solid points.  Jalissa’s leadership has anchored our squad this season and we are so thankful for all she has contributed over the past 3 years.  Varsity leads the PIL! After facing tough competition and placing 3rd behind Grant and Cleveland at Heron Lakes this past week, we have managed to hold on to the top spot heading into our final league match next Wednesday at Eastmoreland.

Men’s Tennis- David Coodley is playing the best tennis of his high school career at exactly the right time. At #1 doubles with Dylan Chatard David has won four matches in a row. David has been playing at his highest level and should have a good run at Districts next week. David is also an amazing teammate and a great addition to the tennis team the last four years. Through hard work, dedication and sacrifice David will leave Wells this year but his impact on the team will remain. For a rebuilding season having lost 12 Seniors to graduation the Men's Wells Tennis Team has exceeded expectations. Our young group has managed to take third place in the PIL maintaining Wells' spot in the upper third of the conference. Lead by captains Nolan Sottoway and Jordan Vollen this team was a wonderful group of young men who's futures look bright.

Nuggets for the week
“If you’re one of those people who has that little voice in the back of her mind saying, ‘Maybe I could do [fill in the blank],’ don’t tell it to be quiet. Give it a little room to grow, and try to find an environment it can grow in.” ― Reese Witherspoon, Actor

I.  Rethinking Our Competition
The most important person we'll ever coach, lead, and manage is ourselves. Our competition is not other people.

Our competition is:

  • Our ego.
  • Our self-doubt.
  • Our distractions.
  • Our bad habits.
  • Our procrastination.
  • Our lack of discipline.
  • Our unhealthy lifestyle choices.
  • The negative behavior we nurture.
  • The knowledge we neglect to learn.

II. Intentional Living

Learn from the past: Adversity is an experience, not a final act.

Live in the present: Every day is a gift, an opportunity, an interview, a new story, a celebration, a blank canvas, an intellectual journey, a negotiation. Every day is Now.

Believe in the future: Believe in your heart, for it offers hope. Believe in your mind, for it offers direction. Believe in your soul for it offers strength.

III. When In Doubt

Remember you have:

  • the power to say no + the authenticity to be you.
  • the patience to keep learning + the fortitude to continue trying.
  • the courage to embrace change + the fearlessness to give selflessly.
  • the wisdom to cultivate inner peace + the bravery to fulfill your aspirations.
  • the openness that grows friendships + the awareness to follow your intuition.
  • the intelligence to not repeat the past.
